TechCrunch Disrupt SF Event Visuals Case Study

For TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco 2016, MELT was brought in by Keisuke Shingu to create a branded motion system that felt specific to the event's host city. The content needed to support high-visibility keynote presentations while also functioning as a cohesive visual environment throughout the three-day conference.

Turning San Francisco data into event content

MELT used geographic map data and height maps to construct an accurate, minimal 3D rendering of San Francisco. The city model provided recognizable topography and urban structure without competing with stage speakers, presentation material, or the TechCrunch identity.

Camera animation and brand integration

Multiple virtual camera paths were designed to explore different parts of the city. Those sequences were fused with TechCrunch typography, color, and graphic language to create a family of branded animations rather than one repeating background.

One system for keynotes and ambient screens

The finished visual content appeared during keynote presentations and as branded screen media throughout the three-day event. Designing both uses from the same San Francisco system gave the conference a consistent visual identity while allowing the pacing and information density to change between presentation and ambient moments.
